Moscow, June 25:

Two Russian astronauts carried out a spacewalk from the International Space Station (ISS) yesterday lasting 6 hours and 35 minutes.

Alexander Misurkin and Fyodor Yurchikhin opened the station's outer door at 5:31 pm (1331 GMT) and began maintenance work outside the station, the Russian mission control centre said.

The two failed to complete all the intended tasks because some of the work took longer than planned, mission control said.

It was the sixth spacewalk for Yurchikhin and the first for Misurkin, who only arrived at the ISS in March.

There are three Russians, two Americans and an Italian on the ISS at present.
