Tessy Thomas, Geeta Varadan land Nayudamma Memorial Award - The News Reports

Two leading women scientists will be awarded the prestigious Dr Y Nayudamma Memorial Award 2014 for their contribution in the field of missile technology and remote sensing.

The awards will be conferred on Dr Tessy Thomas, Director, Advanced Systems Laboratory, DRDO and Geeta Varadan, Director, Advanced Data Processing Research Institute, ISRO, noted a press release. The scientists will be awarded in a ceremony to be held here on March 1.

Managing Trustee of Dr Y Nayudamma Memorial Trust, P Vishnu Murthy said in a release that it is for the first time in the annals of the trust that two eminent women scientists are being concurrently honoured.

The recipients will also deliver the 23rd Dr Y Nayudamma Memorial Lecture on themes 'Make in India – Defence Needs and Initiatives' and 'Remote Sensing Technology for National Needs', respectively.

Raman Magsaysay Award recipient Professor Shanta Sin ha will present the award to Dr Thomas and Varadan.

The Dr Y Nayudamma Memorial Award was instituted in 1986 by Dr Yelavarthy Nayudamma Memorial Trust to commemorate the distinguished scientist and internationally renowned leather technologist, Nayudamma.
