SADLY it doesn't look like there will be any Star Wars-like intergalactic fights in the near future with Russia's 'space troops' accepting today that they are "not ready to fight extraterrestrial civilisations".
Even with years of training, it seems Russia's Aerospace Defence Troops, also known as 'space troops', would not be able to handle the threat of an alien invasion, a defence official said.
Russia Today reported that at the Titov Main test and Space Systems Control Centre near Moscow, the centre's deputy chief Sergey Berezhnoy announced the news that the troops were not quite ready for such a big task.
"So far we are not capable of that. We are unfortunately not ready to fight extraterrestrial civilizations," Berezhnoy replied.
"Our centre was not tasked with it. There are too many problems on Earth and near it," he added.
Despite the troops not having the ability to call to arms if aliens really do land, Russia Today was quick to reassure readers Russia has "extremely effective and high tech means for dealing with terrestrial issues and threats".
The Russian Space Forces are tasked with the responsibility of air and missile defence along with the operation of military satellite issues.
The space centre, located 25 miles outside of Moscow, controls 80% of Russia's satellites.
