Chennai, Sep 12 (TruthDive): Global warming, the main problem in the future world will affect Tamil Nadu according to researchers. The Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation Research (CCC&AR) has detailed that Tamil Nadu will experience an increase in temperature, nearly by 3.4 degree Celsius by the end of the century. The report also suggested that life would be very hard to live in the urban areas where the temperature may exceed 45 degrees Celsius. Even many species like bats and other animals may migrate from these areas. Dr A. Ramachandran, Director of CCC&AR, Anna University said, "There is a lot of talk about climate change, but for the past few years, we have been depending on foreign countries as we base our models on their projections. This the first time that such region-specific data has come out in the country." The Centre used a licensed version of PRECIS, a climatic modelling system from the UK met office. He added, "Studies show that Chennai's maximum temperature will increase by 0.9 degree Celsius and that of the neighbouring districts by 1 degree Celsius over the next 30 years." Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts near Chennai will be the worse-affected and the temperature might possibly increase by 3.4 degree Celsius, compared to Chennai, where the temperature rise will be around 3.1 degree Celsius. Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and Krishnagiri districts will also be affected by the rise in temperature and may have water scarcity by the end of the century. Professor Ramachandran emphasized to look for alternative agricultural practices due to rise in temperature and water scarcity. In 2100, Kanyakumari district would be the best place to live in as it has the advantage of both the north-east and the south-west monsoons, he said. The 'Climate Change Projections for Tamil Nadu' report also claimed a slight decrease in the rains will be seen during the South-West monsoon in the month of June to September. It also stated that the North-East monsoon will be heavy and with cyclones. Due to the increase of heat, the number of days that experience 25 mm of rain per day during the north-east monsoon will increase. via Science - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNF27na3j5CBgrBZruqK63dtibJhcA&url=http://truthdive.com/2013/09/12/tamil-nadu-temperature-will-rise-by-3-4-degree-celsius-in-2100.html | |||
