BANGALORE: The recent Edinburgh International Science Festival in the city that drew children in droves showed how much fun the subject can be. The city's landmark Sir M Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum on Kasturba Road also pretty much strives to do the same. But space crunch and upkeep woes are a damper at the museum, which has a million footfalls every year. Right from recreating the age of dinosaurs millions of years ago to simulating astronaut Sunita Williams's exercises during her space mission, the museum has much to offer for science lovers. Set up in 1962 as a tribute to Sir M Visvesvaraya, engineer-statesman and one of the architects of modern Karnataka, the museum is housed on a 40,000 sq ft campus. It has seven exhibition halls that showcase fun science, engine hall and science for children a mong others. Torn charts: But torn charts in exhibition halls, signs of ill-maintenance and shortage of space are a bother. Some of the public display charts in most halls are torn and officials blame it on those visitors who touch them. "We get 2,500 visitors a day. How do we keep track?" ask museum officials. Shijina Andul Gafoor, a visitor from Kozhikode in Kerala, said, "I am visiting for the first time and it's exciting. My sons kept asking me questions on everything they saw here. But I wonder why the museum has nothing about oceanography." It's because of regional requirement, said P K Nandakumar, administrative officer of the museum. "In Goa, our museum is focused more on oceanography," he said. via Science - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNGlaVPu3ndESK-pnmhqqdniLdANog&url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bangalore/Bangalore-science-museum-can-do-better/articleshow/22241259.cms | |||
