MUMBAI: At a function, 'Leave Me Alone-Save the Tiger', CM Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday ordered a CBI inquiry into tiger poaching. "An inter-state gang is involved. The police have limitations when it comes to conduct inquiry beyond the state jurisdiction. Hence, it would be appropriate to hand over the investigations to the CBI," he said. "While saving tigers, we also have to encourage and ensure effective implementation of wild tourism in Maharashtra," he added.

In the legislative council, forest minister Patangrao Kad am, too, assured a CBI probe .

BJP legislator Shobha Phadnavis in the council said that people do not have employment under the national rural employment guarantee scheme. "Many of these people enter the forest areas in want of a job and sometimes even might lead to the killing of tigers," she added.

In his reply, Kadam said, "The statement made by the BJP members is not correct as the employment guarantee work is going on as per schedule."
