BANGALORE: Ananth Kamath, a student of Air Force School, Hebbal, bagged the All-India Rank 99 at JEE (Advanced), but the 17-year-old science enthusiast has no plans to join an IIT. This boy has set his heart on the Indian Institute of Science.

It was a science camp organized under the Kishora Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna (KVPY), a fellowship programme for basic sciences administered by IISc, that changed Ananth. "I wanted to get into one of the IITs till the time I was in Class XI. I happened to attend the science camp and I fell in love with the subject. I wanted to dig deep into it, rather than going for engineering which involves application of science," says Ananth whose IISc classes begin on August 1.

Ananth was one of 283 science lovers selected through KVPY. "Once selected at KVPY, you can directly join IISc. I opted for the Bachelor of Science four-year course. After that, I'd like to pursue PhD from some foreign university. I'll do Mathematics or Chemistry as the core subject," said Ananth.

He wants to study some undiscovered concepts. "There are several basic laws that should be obeyed by the universe, but under certain exceptional circumstances, they don't follow these laws. According to me, it happens only because there's a mistake with existing laws and I'd like to explore that," said Ananth.

Ananth comes from a family of engineers and loves playing musical instruments.
