Teams of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandak Committee (SGPC) continued with their relief and rescue operations for the second day in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, where pilgrims continued to remain trapped at places like Hemkunt Sahib, Badrinath and Kedarnath.
SGPC additional
secretary, Daljit Singh Bedi who is supervising the relief operations, in a communique to his chief Avtar Singh Makkar, said that the SGPC medical team had set up a camp at Srinagar in the Garhwal hills. Doctors were distributing medicines and treating the injured while those with injuries of serious nature were being taken by ambulances to Rishikesh.

The SGPC has setup 'langars' at a number of places including at Rishikesh, Srinagar, Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh and near the Rani Pokhri airport. The SGPC team at Rani Pokhri is preparing food packets which helicopters of the army and the Uttarakhand government drop in the affected areas. The 'langar' arrangements are being coordinated with the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and the Gurdwara Hemkunt Sahib Trust.

The SGPC has also arranged for small vehicles, including jeeps for evacuating people from places like Joshimath and Srinagar to Rishikesh. Bedi told Makkar that as of now, more than 3,000 pilgrims still remain stranded at the Gobind Dham and are awaiting their turn to be
air-lifted.
