PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has received over 25,000 suggestions and objections on the draft Development Plan (DP) for old city areas till Monday, two days before the 60-day deadline given to citizens for having their say in the city's future development. The draft DP was published in March and a month's time was given to people to submit their suggestions and objections. But citizens groups demanded an extension saying that 30 days was just not enough to understand such an intricate plan and submit their views. Following pressure from people, the state government gave an extension of 60 days. June 26 is the deadline. "NGOs, experts, citizens and political leaders, all have taken active participation in submitting their views," said PMC city engineer Prashant Waghmare. The city engineer said that most suggestions were related to changes in reservations. "Some have objected to certain reservations while many others have demanded some reservations. Others questioned the protocol and the process of the drafting process," Waghmare said. After June 26, all suggestions and objections will go to a committee which will call a public hearing. Representatives of the state government and elected leaders will be a part of the committee. The general body had approved the draft DP for old city areas in the second week of January. In October 2012, the city improvement committee approved the 20-year DP for the 2007-2027, with special provisions for the metro rail project, a transport hub, expansion of main roads, schemes for housing for the needy and cluster development of old wadas. The earlier DP was drafted in 1982 and was passed in 1987. It expired in 1997, but was extended for 10 years since only 20% of the works could be completed. In 2007, the civic body sought another extension from the state government, which set a deadline of December 2010 for formation of a new DP. The civic administration submitted the draft copy of the new DP to the city improvement committee in December 2011. via Science - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNH71WWfhAzy_3_RklrO5OpBIPsdcQ&url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/pune/Over-25k-responses-received-on-draft-Development-Plan/articleshow/20754511.cms | |||
