This weekend, the moon reached its perigee, or the point in its orbit closest to Earth. When the perigee moon coincides with a full moon, the astronomical event is known as a "supermoon."

In the video below, you can watch this weekend's supermoon rise in Australia and China, where the spectacle appeared bigger and brighter than anywhere else in the world.

If you missed out on this supermoon, the next one is expected to rise on Sept. 28, 2015, and astronomers say the largest will appear sometime in 2034.
