Kin of those dead in jumbo attack to get Rs 5 lakh - Times of India

BANGALORE: The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 5,00,000 to the families of those who died in the elephant attack. RamanathRai, minister for forest, ecology and environment, also urged people to cooperate by not gathering in groups and enraging the elephants.

"The forest department has been carrying out an operation to drive out the herd towards forest areas of Tamil Nadu. This herd of 15 elephants has now reached Sarjapur area near Hosur highway. Effort s are on to drive them to the nearest forest areas of Banerghatta or Krishnagiri, with the help of trained elephants from Mysore," a release from the minister said.

"Measures are being taken to implement the recommendations of the elephant task force set up by the Karnataka high court to find out a permanent solution to this problem," it said.
