VADODARA: Concerned over water pollution during Ganesha festivals, the forest department and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) have urged people to use earthen Ganesha idol.

Both the government departments have also come out with guidelines to help prevent water pollution.

According to the guidelines, people have been advised to not use idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP).

Also, CPCB has advised to not use chemicals and instead use natural colours on the idols. The PoP idols don't dissolve in water and gets deposited at the bottom of water bodies.

Also, chemical colours pollute water and harm the aqua tic life.

According to CPCB, in the long run, such polluted water also enters underground water sources and can endanger human life as well.

CPCB also pointed out that smaller idols get dissolved quickly in water and that size of idols doesn't always determine faith.
