This is looking extremely exciting at the moment. Mars One response in numbers shows 2,02,586 total applications, 47K from US, 20 k applicants from India

More than two hundred thousand people from across the world, including some 47000 people from the US and 21000 people from India have registered to settle down on Mars. Mars One was inundated with unprecedented response as hundreds of thousands of people applied to be among the first group of people to settle down on the Mars.

Though the Mars One seems very enthusiastic about its plans to send people on one way ticket to Mars, there are apprehensions among the minds of the experts too. NASA and many other space agencies right now believe that it is going to be a disaster while many others to believe that it may cause unnecessary loss of lives as nothing is still clear about the nature of Martian climate and ecology.

Whether water is available on the Mars is still not clear. By the way Mars is not another colony in the same city where we can keep the supply of water going even if there is no provision of water in the locality. Mars is farther from Earth then we can even anticipate. The farthest apart that Earth and Mars can be is about 401 million km. The average distance is about 225 million km and we know that traversing this distance successfully with live men and women is well nigh impossible at the moment.

But despite all these issues what is more perplexing is the high number of people from India who have applied for it. Twenty-one thousand people from India willing to go to the moon seem perplexing. But there is little doubt that many times more people might have applied for it as there is so huge disparity in people's income that must be unprecedented across the world. While resources are controlled by a miniscule potion of population, the rest of the population finds it increasingly hard to make ends meet.

But one factor that people must know about is the fact that people in this part of the world have always loved Mars. Other than these realities of life in this part of the world, people here have been fascinated by Mars. The prospect of moving bag and baggage to the foreign shores has charmed the Indians for long now. But moving to a different planet is what has caught the fancy of the country as it ranked second worldwide among the applicants who wish to permanently settle on Mars. A total of 20,747 Indians have submitted their applications with a non-profit foundation funding the project called Mars One.  The project that grabbed the headlines world over the minute it was announced intended to establish a permanent human race  on the Red Planet that is found to be having an atmosphere to make the life sustainable. The project would be launched in 2023.

The highest number of applications in response to Mars One announcement came predictably from the US. As many as 2,02,586 applications were received from across the globe as the first phase of Mars One Astronaut Selection Programme ended. While United States remained on top with 47,654 applications, India followed it at (20,747). The tenth spot went to Spain that saw 3,722 applications. China stood fourth at 13,176, followed by Brazil 10,289, Britain 8497, Canada 8241, Russia 8197, Mexico 7464 and Philippines 4365. In a statement issued it was said that the final selection would be made, in three rounds for next two years, from among the applications received. The first batch of six-ten teams comprising of four members each would be shortlisted and sent for seven years of training in 2015. Once the training finishes they would be sent as the first humans to step and live forever on Red Planet. If you have applied to go on a one way journey, the status of your application will be known as early as before the yearend.
