Greenhouse Gases and Aerosols have Distinct Properties but They Lay Similar Effe

According to a latest research from the University of Hawaii at Manoa's International Pacific Research Center (IPRC) and Scripps Institution of Oceanography, published in the September 1 online issue of Nature Geoscience, besides the fact that greenhouse gases and aerosols are distinct in their properties, they lay a similar effect on the spatial patterns of rainfall change.

Greenhouses gases are everywhere in the atmosphere. These are extended all over the globe. But when these gases along with air pollutants or aerosols forces radiative elements into the atmosphere, there is said to be a manmade climatic change.

Generally, aerosols keep on varying greatly in local concentration. These are commonly found near emission sources such as industrial centers in Asia and North America.

Aerosols affect the climate in two different ways. It either brings an instant affect and bothers the physics and actions of clouds in minutes to days else it takes years to happen and finally get intervened by interactions of the ocean and atmosphere.

So far, a lot many studies have been performed to analyze the fast effects of aerosols on clouds, but their long-term ocean-mediated affects are still to be intervened.

As said by lead-author Shang-Ping Xie, "This came as a big surprise to us. It took a while for the result to sink in. The result means that it is hard to tell apart the greenhouse and aerosol effects".
