New science centre in Jorhat - Nagaland Post

Chief minister TarunGogoi and Union minister of culture Chandresh Kumari Katoch jointly inaugurated a science centre and planetarium at Jorhat on Saturday and dedicated it to the people of Assam.

Addressing a meeting on the occasion, Gogoi said advancement in science and technology was of utmost importance for the state and Union governments. "We have taken up several projects for the development of science and technology in the state. We believe scientific advancement is key to the development of the state. We have set up science centres in all development blocks in the state and are trying to draw the attention of students towards science and technology," he said.

Union minister of culture Chandresh Kumari Katoch said, "Jorhat science centre and planetarium is the 44th such institution in the country. Construction of three other such projects in Assam is underway. The Kokrajhar project is 80% complete and work for the other two projects is also going on in full swing."

She added that the Centre has taken up a proposal to set up a science city in Guwahati and the state government had been asked to acquire required land for the project.

Jorhat MLA Rana Goswami said the centre would facilitate developing a scientific aptitude among students of the entire upper Assam.

The Jorhat science centre and planetarium, built up on 1,300 sq metre area on the bank of historic Rajmao Pukhuri at the heart of the town, consists of exhibition corners, a fun science hub, a science park and a digital planetarium. It also has a science demonstration centre with provision to conduct live demonstration and experiments by visitors.
