During Earth Hour, marked on the last Saturday of March across 6,000 cities in the world, people switch off to express solidarity to the cause of climate change. India has been part of the global initiative since 2009.
Various NGOs, hotels and restaurants will join Mumbaikars in the cause. Young Environmentalists Programme Trust will host a classical dance festival, followed by a candle light vigil and an Earth Hour-themed cake at Meluha Ecotel, Powai. "We will also carry solar lanterns and candles to promote use of alternative forms of energy," said founder Elsie Gabriel.
Schools, through its students, too will spread the message. Students of Oxford International School, Kandivli will carry out a rally in the area. Power companies too will do their bit. Reliance Energy has decided to declare the suburbs with least energy consumption during Earth Hour as 'Most environment conscious suburb'.
