Air-Cleansing Poem Developed

Yes, it is true that an air-cleansing poem has been made. Researchers from the University of Sheffield have developed the poem being printed on a material capable of eradicating air pollution.

The piece of material measuring 10m x 20m eradicates air pollution caused by 20 cars. It removes harmful nitrogen oxide from the atmosphere by soaking it.

Noted poet and professor of poetry, Simon Armitage at the university and Tony Ryan, pro-vice chancellor for science, have developed the poem called, In Praise of Air. The material on which poem is printed is coated with microscopic pollution-eating particles of titanium dioxide.

It helps in utilizing oxygen and sunlight to react with pollutants and purifies air. Being a cost effective and simple technique to keep air clean, it can be used anywhere. It can be applied to advertisements and billboards placed besides roads attracting major traffic.

Researchers said main idea behind the project is to raise awareness about air pollution. It also aims to encourage British industry to adopt the air-cleansing technology more widely. If every flag, banner and advertising poster uses this technology, then a lot of difference would be witnessed in the air quality level.

"This is a fun collaboration between science and the arts to highlight a very serious issue of poor air quality in our towns and cities", said Professor Ryan. This technology is environment friendly and could reduce diseases hence saving more lives. The poem will be on display for a year at the Alfred Denny Building of the University at Western Bank.
