With the help of 3D laser lithography technique, researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany have succeeded in making a lightweight strong material, which is quite similar to the human bones structure.
This newly made material could be used for the making of spacecrafts in future, as it has properties like good strength and light weight.
The newly created material by the researchers is claimed to be the strongest man made cellular structure, with such low weight.
"It's a long-standing aim in engineering to create new materials which are even lighter and stronger, but there is some kind of limit reached with standard materials," said Lead Author Jens Bauer, a Mechanical Engineer from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. He further shared that the objective now would be to find all the possibilities linked with this material.
The work of Karlsruhe researchers has reinforced the fact that changes made at the nano and micro level are capable of enhancing a material's performance by manifold.
At present, materials used for the industrial purposes are very heave and dense, therefore, researchers have been working hard to look for the equally capable alternatives.
This is the first stage towards the achievements, thus, producing the material in more quantity will take quite a long time.
