Work on Dome Completed, say Spanish Companies - French Tribune

According to the revelations of a new report, two companies in Spain have recently announced the completion of a dome work. The dome is aimed at ensuring protection of the Advanced Technology Solar Telescope (ATST). The telescope would be allowed by the same to trail the sun's movement athwart the sky. An official from either of the two companies, viz. Gometegui and Hilfa, said that the ATST was now being constructed in Hawaii, the US state. The report found that the dome is almost 24 metres in height and 600 tonnes in weight. Also, it is 26 metres (85 ft.) in diameter. It was the US National Solar Observatory that awarded the $4.7 million contract to the Spanish firms to develop the "house of the telescope". This term has been coined by Gometegui executive Iñaki Gento. It has been found that the ATST is fully prepared to start its operations at the Haleakala High Altitude Observatory site within 18 months. The observatory site is on the Maui Island in Hawaii.
