Indian scientists of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore have unveiled the mystery that surrounds the black hole by revealing that only one parameter, namely mass, characterises the Black Hole. Several phenomena, like powerful jets, surrounding the black holes can be explained if they are assumed to be spinning. The research started around two years back when associate professor Banibrata Mukhopadhyay, department of physics, IISc and his research group were looking into the life cycle of a star, especially during its last phase before its death. The stars mainly consist of hydrogen and helium which produce nuclear reactions and energy which serve as their fuel to glow, and hence we can see them. Usually, massive stars after losing all their nuclear fuel get converted into black holes. A black hole is the state when a massive star loses its life. A black hole in the universe is so powerful that it eats up everything surrounding it. "The main activities of astrophysical black holes can be understood by two fundamental parameters — mass and rotation (namely spin) of black holes. Our discovery correlates them. Hence knowing mass, we can predict spin which enlightens the said phenomena," professor Mukhopadhyay told HT. The study has been last month published in the international journal Physical Review Letters. ![]() via Science - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNGLgUU6mYkRe4TSIiD81LTI54TKGw&url=http://www.hindustantimes.com/India-news/NewDelhi/Mystery-of-black-hole-unveiled-it-s-mass-say-Indian-scientists/Article1-1125473.aspx | |||
