Heritage panel nod for Sena chief's memorial - Times of India

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee has given its nod to the proposed landscape garden as part of the Smruti Chauthara of the late Shiv Sena leader Balasaheb Thackeray at Shivaji Park. The BMC had proposed a 40X20 ft Chauthara, with a fenced landscape garden to be created at Shivaji Park, a proposed heritage precinct. Hence, the MHCC's permission was required. The garden is proposed alongside the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the Shivaji Park ground, which witnessed the high voltage public meetings conducted by Thackeray. Shivaji Park was also the venue for the annual Dusshera rally conducted by the party. "The BMC submitted a plan to the committee wh ich cleared it on Saturday," said V Ranganathan, chairman of MHCC, told TOI. The political wing of the BMC wants the project to get completed by November, before the first anniversary of Thackeray Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority ( Maharashtra Coastal Zonal Management Authority has asked BMC to rework the plan and come back to it for environmental clearance. tnnBesides, the BMC has been asked to submit information on all existing structures at Shivaji Park and FSI consumed.
