First it was Neil Armstrong and if the US has its way, eventually the moon will be filled with tourists queuing up to visit a theme park celebrating the "singular greatest achievement in American history". Well if the US has its way, they will all have travelled to the moon. Yes, America wants to build a theme park on the moon. And it has even entered a bill into the House of Representatives proposing the establishment of the Apollo Lunar Landing Sites National Historical Park, which would house artefacts left on the moon by astronauts past. The bill, known as "HR 2617" will "expand and enhance the protection and preservation of the Apollo lunar landing sites and provide for greater recognition and public understanding of this singular achievement in American history." Never mind the environmental damage constructing a theme park may do, so long as we establish a monument to the greatest "singular achievement in American history". Ironically, the bill also proposed designating the Apollo 11 landing site as a World Heritage Site. (It will be up to the United Nations to decide). There was no mention of what kind of merchandise would be sold at the hypothetical theme park but no doubt between the moon-rocky-roads, space food sticks and Astro Boy action figures, the theme park will make a killing.
